{Real Wedding} Cobus & Katy

23 March 2013
Kruger wedding - Stanford | Overberg

I was privileged to be the wedding co-ordinator for Katy and Cobus’ wedding. At first I thought that it would be challenging to do the planning while the couple lives in Australia. However, they were such an easy going couple and made the process a pleasure!

The day before the wedding the bridal couple and their close friends and family, checked in at the beautiful Mosaic Sanctuary in Stanford to relax before the big day. Guests travelled from all over the globe to witness them tying the knot in Cobus’ home country.

The next morning myself along with the Mosaic team and Blooming Wonderful décor hire did the set-up at  the 1892 Spookhuis venue and  created the relaxed and romantic look Katy was aiming for.

The bridesmaids were dressed in gorgeous red dresses to match Katy’s beautiful pouted lips. She looked breath-taking as she walked down the aisle accompanied with her mother while the Mosaic Xhosa choir sang in the background.  After the beautiful ceremony at the St. Irene Milkwood cluster trees, the couple was showered with rose petals. Guests were entertained by mellow guitar strings by their friend Gabrielle, which created a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

Guests were served with homemade lemonade and ginger beer, bubbly, Napier lager and Cape wines at the pre-dinner setting under the canopy of the ancient big Milkwood tree. Waiters served scrumptious well portioned canapés, created by Jen and her team from Zest Catering. The beautiful white cake was done by Leigh from Leigh’s cakes.

Kobus from Dreampix photography was behind the lens and despite the cloudy conditions; he created his magic, as always!  He captured amazing photos of the couple with the last ray of sunlight on the majestic Klein river mountain in the background. We surprised the couple with a secret picnic area where they could indulge in canapés and bubbly whilst the guests enjoyed themselves at the natural photo booth area with fun props.

Guests could choose where they felt most comfortable to sit under the canopy of the Milkwood trees or Bedouin tent. The trees were dressed with thousands of whimsical fairy lights and Blooming Wonderful finished the look off by hanging white hearts and bottles with single stem red roses all over the branches.
The dinner was blessed with a table prayer and speeches followed soon after. With Katy being a New Zealander it stirred up a few tears when she declared her love to Cobus in Afrikaans!

The main course was served between the tables and traditional flavours such as tomato breedie in mini potjie pots impressed our international guests.

Just when everyone thought the evening couldn’t get any better, they were surprised with a midnight snack at the Bon-fire at the Lagoon’s edge.

The atmosphere was festive and there were no better place to share in the couple’s happy wedding weekend. On departure from Mosaic they spent their honeymoon with thirty of their close friends and family in the bushveld.

I felt honoured that you entrusted your wedding to {Be my Guest} Events. Thank you for your generosity in supporting the local primary school for impoverished children, Food for Thought in lieu of wedding gifts. You made a difference in the lives of 55 children and families.
